چکیده

Both natural and anthropogenic variables affect soil C distribution its pool, however studies about influence on are very limited in the literature. This study investigated effects organic carbon (SOC) changes cultivated lands of Northeast China. A total 196 topsoil samples (0–30 cm) were collected, analyzed for SOC content, 12 environmental (natural anthropogenic) selected as predictors. Natural factors included elevation, slope gradient, aspect (SA), topographic wetness index (TWI), mean annual temperature, precipitation, normalized difference vegetation index, while population (POP), gross domestic product (GDP), distance to socioeconomic center, roads, reclamation period (PER) represented variables. Three different boosted-regression trees models with combination predictors constructed, model performance was evaluated 10-fold cross-validation. We found that all had best performance, followed by topography climate variables, only However, adding greatly improved performance. Results showed PER, POP GDP key affecting content agroecosystems suggests should be main variable predicting agroecosystem a higher human influence. believe accurate prediction mapping will help formulate farmland management policies promote sequestration.

Distribution and storage of soil organic carbon in China

[1] Surface soils hold the largest terrestrial organic carbon pool, although estimates of the world’s soil organic carbon storage remain controversial, largely due to spatial data gaps or insufficient data density. In this study, spatial distribution and storage of soil organic carbon in China are estimated using the published data from 34,411 soil profiles investigated during China’s second na...

Biophysical controls over concentration and depth distribution of soil organic carbon and nitrogen in desert playas

Playa wetlands are important areas of soil organic carbon and nutrient storage in drylands. We conducted this study to assess how catchment biophysical variables control soil organic carbon and nitrogen in playas and how playas function differently than upland ecosystems. We found that playa organic carbon and nitrogen corresponded primarily with catchment vegetation cover and secondarily with ...

Carbon Sequestration on Mined Lands Supporting Abandoned Grasslands: Soil Organic Carbon Accumulation and Distribution

Reclaimed surface coal mines in the eastern United States are commonly revegetated with grasses and legumes. The productivity and carbon sequestration potential of the vegetation varies with the condition and nature of the mined site and soil. This study was conducted to determine the distribution pattern of soil carbon stock on 9 mined grasslands reclaimed after the passage of SMCRA in 1977. M...

Soil organic carbon under different landscape attributes in croplands of Northeast China

Soil organic carbon (SOC) was measured in topsoil samples of agricultural soils from 311 locations of Jiutai County, Northeast China. The spatial characteristics of SOC were studied using the Geographic Information Systems and geostatistics. Effects of other soil physical and chemical properties, elevation, slope, soil type and land use type were explored. SOC concentrations followed a lognorma...

Climate and Land Use Controls on Soil Organic Carbon in the Loess Plateau Region of China

The Loess Plateau of China has the highest soil erosion rate in the world where billion tons of soil is annually washed into Yellow River. In recent decades this region has experienced significant climate change and policy-driven land conversion. However, it has not yet been well investigated how these changes in climate and land use have affected soil organic carbon (SOC) storage on the Loess ...
